Abstract Monodisperse microshperes consisting of urea-formaldehyde(UF) resins,Fe_2O_3 and SiO_2 were prepared by dispersion polymerization.Different influences on the dispersive extent and the magnitude of the microshperes in different conditions were investigated. The composite microspheres were then submitted for heat treatment to burn out the polymer template and render the remaining particles magnetizable. In this process -Fe_2O_3 was partly transformed into -Fe_2O_3.SEM micrograph of the UF resins/Fe_2O_3/SiO_2 microspheres and XRD spectrum of the Fe_2O_3/SiO_2 microspheres showed that the Fe_2O_3/SiO_2 microspheres were porous, monodisperse and magnetizable.
