Abstract The flame retardant polyether polyol(HIROL) containing phosphorus was synthesized with dimethyl phosphite and high reactive chloride polyether polyol(CHIRO) which had chloromethyl group in side chain. The effect of process conditions, such as microwave, reactant ratio, catalyst and solvent etc, on the nucleophilic substitution and yield of product were investigated. The results showed that when the content of phosphorus reached 141%—673%, HIROL was a transparent amber liquid whose viscosity was 0359—0668 Pa·s. Then oxygen index of flame retardant soft PU foam composed of HIROL was 226—283 and the other mechanical and technical parameters were in accord with those in GB12080-89.
