Abstract N,N-diethylethanolamine as a third component termed an entrainer was added into the mixture of acetic acid and water. The relative volatility was determined, and results showed that this entrainer greatly improved the relative volatility between acetic acid and water components, thus permitting the separation of the acetic acid from aqueous solution. The separation mechanism was analyzed through infrared spectra technique. The results revealed that an ionic complex was formed between N,N-diethylethanolamine and acetic acid molecules.
