Abstract Isopropylbenzene,4-tert-butyltoluene and 1,4-diethybenzene were selected as solvents for separation of acetonitrile-toluene mixture by batch extractive distillation according to a model derived from UNIFAC group contribution method.The vapor-liquid equilibria of acetonitrile-toluene system and acetonitrile-toluene with different solvents were measured by the vapor-liquid equilibria experiments,and the vapor-liquid equilibria of those systems were also calculated using UNIFAC group contribution method to calculate activity coefficients.Different solvents were investigated experimentally by batch extractive distillation,the results show that 1,4-diethybenzene is the optimal solvent for such process. The effects of reflux ratio and solvent ratio were also studied for batch extractive distillation.
