Abstract Dispersing behavior of poly(octene-1-ethylene)(POE) in polypropylene(PP) matrix were investigated in mixer with on-line analysis by phase contrast microscope.Because the images of phase contrast microscope were corresponding with the images of small angle light scattering very well,the light scattering parameter��particle diameter of dispersing phase a_(c2) was introduced to characterize dispersing behavior of(PP/POE) system.According to the change of a_(c2) depending on time,dispersing processes of PP/POE system consisted of three stages,the first stage,intermediate stage and final stage.According to the relationship between a_(c2) and composition,co-phase continuity appeared when PP/POE was 70/30(weight ratio) and this agreed well with those of SEM.
