Abstract Pentaerythrityl tetraacetate was synthesized from acetic acid and pentaerythrite,catalyzed by SO_4~(2-)/TiO_2-La_2O_3 rare-earth solid superacid.Various factors affecting the reaction were discussed.Results show that the rare-earth solid superacid SO_4~(2-)/TiO_2-La_2O_3 is an excellent catalyst for the synthesis of pentaerythrityl tetraacetate.The optimum conditions are as follows:the mass ratio of the catalyst(can be resued) to the reactants is 2.5%,the molar ratio of alcohol to acid is 1��8,the reaction time is 90 min,and the amount of water carrying reagent is 15 mL.Under such conditions,the yield of pentaerythrityl tetraacetate can be up to 84%.
