Abstract The alkaline hydrolysis of chloroacetates, such as methyl chloroacetate(MCA),ethyl chloroacetate(ECA),tert-butyl chloroacetate(t-BCA),were investigated at different concentrations of anionic surfactant micelle of sodium dodecyl sulfate(from 5 mmol/L to 70 mmol/L) with the traditional method of conductant. The results indicated that SDS inhibited the alkaline hydrolysis of chloroacetates. The principle for the inhibition effect was discussed.
