Abstract The progress in reaction mechanism and preparation techniques of hexabromocyclododecane(HBCD)both at home and abroad is reviewed. According to the problems existing in the HBCD synthesis process, it is suggested that we improve the purity of the HBCD products and take post-processing measures to enhance thermal stability of HBCD, which are the future research direction of synthesis high purity and high thermal stability of HBCD. Furthermore, we can carry out kg-scale experiments to provide the reference for the industrial scale-up generation.
