Abstract Porous carbon microspheres with a high SBET surface area have been prepared selected porous starch as precursor. The synthetic process composed of ammonium secondary phosphate catalyzed stabilization, carbonization and KOH activation at different mass ratios of KOH/C. The morphologies and pore textures of the resultant nano-carbon microspheres have been measured by SEM, HRTEM and N2 sorption tests. The results shown that the carbon microspheres have a high surface area more than 2300 m2/g contained a large amount of macro- and micropores. Furthermore, these carbon microspheres existed excellent electrochemical performances in a symmetric electrochemical double-layer capacitor with 6 M KOH as electrolyte and a high specific capacitance of 248 F/g was maintained even at a high current density of 100 A/g. |
