Abstract The phosphotungstic acid (HPWA) was loaded on the HY molecular sieve by impregnation method and the oxidative desulfurization of FCC simulation gasoline was investigated with thiophene solution as model compound by this loaded catalyst. The effects of reaction temperature, catalyst loading amount, reaction time, catalyst amount and oxidant amount on desulfurization were studied. The results show that with the loaded phosphotungstic acid as catalyst, tetrabutyl ammonium bromide as phase transfer catalyst, reaction temperature 40 ℃, reaction time 150 min, the oxidant amount n(H2O2)/n(S)=8, dimethyl sulfoxide as extractant, the desulfurization rate of thiophene is up to 9289%. The sulfur content of model compound dropped to 36 μg/g after reaction, which meets the requirements of the standard. This method can be used to produce low sulfur gasoline.
