Abstract The process of biosorption of Pb2+ by chlorella pyrenoidosa, its adsorption thermodynamics and adsorption kinetics were investigated in this paper. The effects of biomass concentration,pH value, temperature, initial Pb2+ concentration and adsorption time on biosorption were studied respectively. Result showed that the adsorption rate did not fluctuate remarkably when the biomass concentration varied at the range of 05 g/L to 4 g/L.The biosorption was significantly affected by initial solution pH and the optimal pH value of biosorption of Pb2+ by chlorella pyrenoidosa was 4—6. On the other hand, the adsorption quantity of Pb2+ by chlorella pyrenoidosa was positively correlated with the initial concentration of Pb2+. Kinetic studies revealed that the biosorption was rapid, the absorption reached its equilibrium within 60 min at 25 ℃.These experimental results could be accurately described by second order kinetic model. The Freundlich model fitted the experimental data quite well. This can give references to purification process of seawater contained lead.
