Abstract Scale-up of stirred-tank with a coiled pipe, dished bottom and agitator with a inclined-blade turbine for solids in liquid suspension was studied. Experiments were conducted in three plexiglass-tanks of 0.2,0.5and 1.0m diameter respectively. The suspension concentration was measured by laser method.Empirical correlations of stirring speed and specific power both for off-bottom suspension and for homogeneous suspension were obtained. The latter one agrees with the equation of homogeneous suspension derived from the axial velocity distribution. The results show that the scale-up exponent of tank diameter mainly depends on the recycle volumetric flow number. |
