Abstract
Experimental study has been made on substituting polytetra-fluoroethylene oxygen electrode with silver catalyst for hydrogen cathode in chlorine-alkali electrolyzer in common use today. Since the electrode reaction has been changed, The voltage of the electrolyzer has been reduced by about 1V. We estimate a save of electrical energy of 2030%, and it is possible to use cheap manganese dioxide as the catalyst used in the oxygen electrode.
