Abstract:
Naphthalenedisulfonic acid has been synthesized by treating naphthalene with oleum in and not in the presence of organic solvent. The factors which can affect the reactions have been investigated also. The increasing concentration of oleum or the reaction temperature or the ratio of oleum to naphthalene results in the decreasing yield of 1,5-Naphthalenedisulfonic acid. The comparation of the two different methods shows that by using 30% oleum as sulfonation agent and 1,2-dichloroethane as organic solvent, the yield of 1,5-Naphthalenedisulfonic acid is 76.5%,which is much higher than using 20% oleum as sulfonating agent without organic solvent added.
