Abstract:
Interface stabilized flexible bistable cholesteric liquid crystal devices were prepared with ITO-PET films via filling method by treating the conductive surface with and using spacers to control the thickness of the device. The microstructure and morphology of the devices were studied using contact angle tester and microscope, and the electrical properties of the devices using Ultraviolet Visible Spectrophotometer(UVS). The results showed that the inductive effect of the interface coating effectively improved the stability of the liquid crystal alignments. Thus flexible bistable cholesteric liquid crystal devices were obtained using spacers of 6 μm size. The effective display area is 10 cm× 15 cm with a transmittance of 90% at 550 nm. Moreover, a character display experiment was carried out after treating the electrode with etching technology.
