Abstract:
A process for preparation of the potassium methylate with the potassiummercury amalgam produced via an electrolytic process was studied. The experimental results showed that the most important factor influencing the current efficiency was the potassium’s content of amalgam potassium while the least one was the electrolytic temperature. The obtained optimum reaction conditions were electrolytic temperature 20 ℃, potassium’s content of amalgam potassium 0.2 %, molar concentration of potassium carbonate solution1 mol[DK]/L, cathode current density 1.6 kA/m2, electrolytic time more than 10 minutes. Highpurity potassium methylate was prepared using amalgam potassium under the optimum reaction conditions as follows: temperature 60 ℃, the weight ratio of catalyst to potassium amalgam 0.5 %, the reaction time 10 minutes.
