Abstract
By means of soap free emulsion the polymer microspheres have been synthesized with styrene (St)butyl acrylate(BA) and hydrophilic monomer(HEA) in the presence of methanol. The effects of the cosolvent methanol dosage, the initiator dosage and hydrophilic monomer dosage on the polymerization rate and the final latex particle diameter were studied. The results show that the polymerization rate speeds up, the final latex particle diameter and its monodispersity increase as long as the proper amount of methanol is added. The polymerization rate and the final latex particle diameter rise with increasing the initiator dosage and hydrophilic monomer dosage in the presence of methanol.
